Dexter is a short drive up the road from our office in Poplar Bluff. We write a good deal of Medicare there, and a fair amount of everything else.
Mercy Hospital Stoddard is right there on North One Mile Road: emergency room, ICU, imaging, infusion. Saint Francis runs a clinic on Saint Francis Drive with walk-in urgent care until six, plus primary care, cardiac, OB/GYN and imaging. Two systems in one town. That is better than most places around here get.
Those are two different health systems, and the one you use in Dexter is generally the one you will be sent to in Cape Girardeau when you need something bigger. Start at Saint Francis in town, and your referrals run to Saint Francis in Cape. Start at Mercy Stoddard, and they run to Mercy Southeast. A plan that covers one may not cover the other.
The hospital in Dexter has changed hands twice. It was Dexter Memorial, it joined SoutheastHealth in 2013, and it only became Mercy Hospital Stoddard in 2024. Directories do not always keep up with a change like that. If you are comparing plans on a website, you may be looking at a name that is two years out of date.
When you come in, we start from your doctors, the ones you actually see, by name, and the hospital you would want to go to. Then we look at what is available to you and see which plans line up. Not the cheapest premium. The one that covers the people you already trust. No cost for that conversation and nothing to sign.
Dexter is farm country, and farm property does not insure like a house in town. Outbuildings, equipment, a shop, acreage, liability that reaches past the yard. We write home, auto, life and business out of the same office as the Medicare. We are at 385 Missouri W in Poplar Bluff, on Hwy W across from McLane Park. Call (573) 778-8227. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
